School Governors

Welcome to the Governors section of the school website. Here you can find out more information about who your school governors are and what we do on behalf of the Harrison school community.

I am the Chair of Governors, being in the role since January 2025, and my role is to facilitate the various activities of the governors across the various committees and individual roles.

I have been a governor since January 2023, joining in the position of Parent Governor and sitting on the Finance & Resources Committee. I was also the Curriculum Governor before taking over the Chair position. My daughter attended Harrison and my son is currently still a pupil and I was keen to give something back to the school.

I chair a strong cohort of nearly 20 governors, including parents, school staff and some with decades of experience supporting Harrison Primary School. The governors come from an eclectic mix of professional and personal backgrounds, each bringing different perspectives and skills to their roles. It is our role to use these skills and experiences to fulfil the core functions of a school governing board:

1.    That the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined.

2.    That the headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school.

3.    The sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources.

We do this through the various committees which meet in the early evenings and visits during the school day to observe specific activities within the classrooms. These activities are closely supported by the school leadership team, including the Head Teacher, individual Year Leads and key administrative personnel. The governors will examine the school’s plans and review key decisions and scrutinise performance data.

We all believe that Harrison is an outstanding school, something confirmed by OFSTED. The whole school team work extremely hard on behalf of the pupils and the governors are honoured and privileged to play a small role in ensuring the best outcome for everyone in the school community. Despite this, we are all working hard to identify any potential opportunities to improve.

If you wish to know more about what the governors do, you can access some of the resources below. Also, if you see us around the school, please feel free to speak directly to us.
