Additional Open After Hours Event - Year R September 2026 Parents
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you for your interest in Harrison Primary School for your child’s Year R application for September 2026. Choosing the right school is a significant decision, and we thought you might find it helpful to see the feedback from our most recent Year R parental survey.
Our families highlighted several key strengths of our Early Years provision:
- Smooth Transitions: Parents noted that children settle quickly and happily due to our thoughtfully paced transition programme. The transition into Reception Year is smooth, well planned and thoughtfully paced. Confidence grows noticeably as children settle into routines and new experiences.
- Nurturing Environment: Our staff are recognised for their warm, welcoming approach and for taking the time to understand each child’s unique personality and needs. Children respond positively to routines, structure and daily schedules.
- Academic Progress: Families reported strong early progress in reading and writing, with children showing a particular enthusiasm for their phonics sessions.
- Communication & Partnership: Through regular updates via Tapestry (a secure online learning journey platform) and clear home-learning guidance, we ensure parents remain fully involved and supported in their child’s learning journey.
- Inclusion & Wellbeing: Our environment is described as calm and safe, providing sensitive and dignified support for children with additional needs. Children develop a love of learning and show enthusiasm for school life. Staff support younger children confidently, helping them thrive alongside older peers.
Upcoming Open Events
If you would like another opportunity to visit the school before submitting your application, we are holding two further open events on Tuesday, 6th January 2026:
Open Morning – Whole School Tour: 9:30 am
Open After-Hours Session – Year R Classrooms: 4:00 pm
To attend either of these sessions, please book your space by completing our Open Event Booking Form.
If you have previously pre-booked to attend our Open Morning on 6th January 2026, there is no requirement to submit another request.

School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2024/25 academic year
We are delighted to announce that we, Harrison Primary School, have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2024/25 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
Open Afternoon (Year R Sept 2025) - Monday, 16th December 2024 - 4 - 5pm
Dear parents and carers
We were pleased to welcome you to one of our recent Harrison Open Mornings, and sincerely hope you enjoyed your visit.
We recognise that these events are busy and that you may like the opportunity to talk to Sara Gmitrowicz, Executive Head teacher, Sarah Thornley our SENCo, and our Early Years Lead after school hours, when Year R is quieter. Therefore we will be opening our doors to Early Years on Monday, 16th December 2024 from 4.00 – 5.00 pm.
Although there will be no pupils in Early Years at this time, we would like to give you the chance to visit again and find out more about Year R transition.

Open Mornings for Year R (September 2025 start)
We are delighted to invite prospective parents to our forthcoming 'Open Mornings' and look forward to meeting you. In order to gain as much insight as possible, we advise you attend without your child, however they are most welcome if you have no other option.
Bookable visits will be held on the following dates and will last approximately 1.5 hours.
Thursday, 14th November 2024 - 9.30 am
Friday, 15th November 2024 - 9.30 am
Tuesday, 19th November 2024 - 9.30 am
Thursday, 21st November 2024 - 9.30 am
Thursday, 9th January 2025 - 9.30 am
