Harrison Headlines - Friday 9th July 2021

Dear Parents/Carers

I seriously can't believe that we have just 10 school days to go until the end of term... as ever this time is busy for us as we bring the year to a close and prepare for September. Please note the children and the team will be working hard until the last day - there will use every minute of the 10 days!

Transition meetings with new classes and visits to new classrooms will take place in the last week.

The last day of school is Friday 23rd July 2021 - there are no more INSET days this academic year.

Relationships and Sex Education update re parental consultation:

Firstly, a huge thank you for your responses last academic year in the parent consultation regarding the Relationships and Health Education Policy. We fully appreciate your views and would like to share with you the actions made in response to the policy consultation. Please see separate attachment.

Whole school summer celebration song and movie - we thought you would like to see the children enjoying the much-improved outdoor learning environment. As we have not been able to invite parents into school to celebrate our enjoyment of learning and all that we have achieved this year, please find attached our 'Summer Celebration song' movie. Every class has contributed to this movie which celebrates our five school Values: Collaboration, Honesty, Equality, Respect and Responsibility; we hope you like the children's physical and vocal accompaniment!

Thank you to Miss Eddleston & Mrs Sparshott for creating such an enjoyable snapshot of Harrison.

Sports Challenge winners will be announced next week on Mr Cole's return from the Year 6 residential to Little Canada.

We say 'goodbye and very best wishes' to Miss Krick, Y2K, as she starts her maternity leave today. We will keep you posted once Miss Krick & Mr Gooding's baby arrives. Mrs Todd will teach Y2K until the end of term.

End of year transition to September 2021:

The children will meet their new teachers on Tuesday 20th July; transition sessions will be outdoors as we are keen to maintain protective measures for our whole community. If the weather is bad these will happen on Wednesday 21st.

We are in the process of organising class lists and staffing for September; please note that all classes will be mixed this year as some classes have been together for three years.

Next Friday's update to parents will contain information regarding year group teaching teams and detailed arrangements for the start and the end of the day; please bear with us as we sort final arrangements.

School Streets – Request for Volunteers

Request for Volunteers - the success of the scheme is dependent on us having enough volunteers to manage the barriers along the school streets scheme. We almost have enough volunteers to run this - please ask grandparents/neighbours and friends if they can spare us a bit of time in a week. We anticipate that we will need 5 volunteers each morning and afternoon. Full training will be provided.  If you are able to volunteer for even one start of the school day or end of the school day slot each week please can you email with your availability.

Absence in Term Time

We are receiving a rise in absences during school time. As per Hampshire County Council guidelines, absence in term time is not permitted and will not be authorised unless agreed in advance. Absences can only be approved in exceptional circumstances. Please be reminded that unauthorised absences can result in a penalty notice being issued.

And lastly, COVID once more:

There are schools locally with class pods closed once more and this past week, we continue to have team members who are out of school due to track and trace and self-isolation. Although the Government is lifting measures we will continue to keep them in place until the end of term as we do all we can to ensure our whole school community can start their holiday on Saturday 24th July. I must inform you that we have really had to work hard to keep all classes in school over the past few weeks.
