Harrison Headlines- Friday 29th September 2023

'Walktober' is a challenge held each October to celebrate International Walk to School Month. During this month everyone at Harrison is encouraged to walk, wheel and use other active and sustainable travel as much as possible. This fits well with our daily 'School Streets Scheme' which is actively enabling more of our families to walk, ride and scoot to school.

In Hampshire, Walktober has been run annually by Hampshire County Council's Travel Planning Team since 2016. Last year 152 schools and settings took part, meaning a staggering 49,228 pupils and 6,226 staff took part in the challenge.

Please find attached this year's information - including the pupil challenge card and competition.

As part of Harrison's Walktober activities John Clode from Sustrans, the UK charity that promotes cycling, walking and public transport, will be leading assemblies in school on Monday 2nd October. Sustrans' vision is a society where the way we travel creates healthier places and happier lives for everyone. John will also be offering 'cycle safety checks' for year 6 children - please look out for a previous email.

Modern Foreign Languages afternoon - Monday 16th October 2023

On Monday 16th October, we will be holding an MFl afternoon at school. The children will be moving around the different classes within their year group and will be finding out about different countries and will complete various related activities.

As part of the day, we would like the children to come to school dressed in the colours of their chosen flag, if possible bringing an image of the flag with them.

We hope this afternoon will be a lot of fun for all involved and that the children will learn a lot about different countries around the world

Harvest Food Bank Collection

Thank you to all our parents and children who generously donated items for the Acts of Kindness Charity (AOK) who are working hard to provide for the most vulnerable and hungry families locally; on average AOK produce 60 food parcels a week. We thank you for your kindness and greatly appreciate your support.
