Sports Days

It’s Sports Day time again! Sports Day this year will follow a similar course as previous years. Each child in the school will be representing one of 8 teams, with the aim of adding friendly competition.

It will be run over 3 days, Years 5 and 6 on Wednesday 4th July, Years 2, 3 and 4 on Thursday 5th July and Reception and Year 1 on Friday 6th July.

Each Sports Day will be split over two sessions – a morning session and an afternoon session. During the morning the children will take part in a carousel of non-competitive sports. This will begin at 9:30 am and finish approximately at 10:30am. Through these challenges, the children can collect points for the team that they are representing. These points will be added together and at the end of the week and a winning team will be announced.

The afternoon will consist of competitive races, where every child will be allocated a race to take part in to win points for their team.  Please see the table below for timings for each day. If you would like to watch your child take part, you will be most welcome, but please do not enter the school field more than 10 minutes before the races begin, as there may not be staff prior to that, to organise spectators. After the year R and 1 sports day on Friday, the whole school will gather to hear which country has won overall.

You are more than welcome to attend both morning and afternoon sessions should you wish. Timings for each sports day session:

Team Challenges - 9.30-10.30 am on each respective day

Years 5 & 6 Track Races - 2.00 - 3.00 pm, Wed, 4th July 2018

Years 2, 3 & 4 Track Races - 1.45 - 3.00 pm, Thurs, 5th July 2018

Year R and 1 - 2.00 - 3.00 pm, Fri, 6th July 2018

Children will be informed shortly of the teams they have been allotted to. These should be the same as their teams last year. We are asking that children come dressed in a specific colour on their sports day to make their team easily identifiable. Feel free for your child to either wear a t-shirt, shorts or cap in the colour of their country, if at all possible.  Please see below for details:

Romans - Red

Celts - Blue

Vikings - White

Greeks - Green

Trojans - Orange

Spartans - Purple

There will also be designated areas for parents to support and watch their children. We would really appreciate it if parents remain in these areas to avoid any accidents.

If you have any questions regarding sports day, please ask your child’s class teacher, or feel free to approach me in year 5.

Many thanks,

Mr Cole PE and Sports Co-ordinator
